Latest: Kai Ringwood (Edge, 6-4, 225, Pleasant Grove HS, Texarkana, Texas) committed June 22, giving Tyson Helton 21 commits. Heading into the Dead Period, Western Kentucky is sitting on one of the stronger classes in the Group of 6 — ranked No. 1 in Conference USA and No. 80 nationally per Profile.

The number

3 — Power 4 offers held by commits in this class. Justice Pittman had Kentucky and Louisville. Firass Ibrahim had Pittsburgh. Jamaine Lewis had South Carolina. Tyson Helton didn’t just fill a class — he won recruiting battles against programs with deeper pockets.

The fit

This class was built in June. Twenty of 21 commits came during the Dead Period rush, and the geographic footprint tells you where Helton’s staff is working: Tennessee (6), Georgia (3), Florida (3), Alabama (2), Mississippi (2), Texas (3), Kentucky (2) and Missouri (1). The Southeast corridor from Nashville to Birmingham to Atlanta is the recruiting backbone.

The defensive front got the most attention. Five commits along the defensive line and edge — Jamaine Lewis (6-2, 300), Justice Pittman (6-4, 290), Corey Wiggins (6-4, 215) and Kai Ringwood (6-4, 225) give Helton length, mass and pass-rush upside. The offensive line group matches that physicality: four commits averaging 6’4, 294 pounds, anchored by Kevin Gilyard Jr. at 6-5, 325.

Ri’Chard Bowe is the headliner — a 3.5-star cornerback from St. Thomas Aquinas with 23 offers and a Profile grade (74.84) that dwarfs the rest of the class. Dallas Covington brings a quarterback who completed 76.1 percent of his passes with 22 touchdowns as a junior at East Nashville Magnet. The staff took one of each at the premium positions and loaded the trenches around them.

The commits

Ri’Chard Bowe — CB, 6-0, 170, St. Thomas Aquinas, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Committed June 20. Highest-rated commit in the class at 3.5 stars with a 74.84 Profile grade and 23 offers. St. Thomas Aquinas is one of the premier high school programs in the country — a factory that has produced dozens of NFL players. Bowe is the crown jewel of this class.

Brayden Maples — RB, 5-11, 180, Sevier County HS, Sevierville, Tenn. Committed June 17. Second-highest Profile grade in the class (64.18). Tennessee Mr. Football semifinalist who held offers from Kentucky, Indiana, Liberty, Marshall and Appalachian State.

Firass Ibrahim — SAF, 6-1, 185, Brookwood HS, Snellville, Ga. Committed June 17. Two-way player who recorded 54 tackles, 3 interceptions and 4 pass breakups as a junior. Held 21 offers including Pittsburgh. Prep Redzone scouting report: “Isn’t afraid to come downhill and strike.”

Jamaine Lewis — DT, 6-2, 300, Parker HS, Birmingham, Ala. Committed June 15. Transferred from Hueytown to Parker for his senior season. Held 19 offers including South Carolina. A 300-pound interior presence with SEC interest who chose WKU.

Corey Wiggins — Edge, 6-4, 215, Madison Central HS, Miss. Committed June 19. Held 17 offers. Long edge rusher with room to add weight to a 6-4 frame.

Velon Henderson — ATH, 6-3, 170, Oakland HS, Murfreesboro, Tenn. Committed June 16. Held offers from Colorado and Vanderbilt. Profile classifies him as a skill linebacker; listed as an athlete on his own socials.

Rashad Bobo — LB, 6-1, 220, Lake Cormorant HS, Lake Cormorant, Miss. Committed June 1. First commit of the June wave.

Kai Ringwood — Edge, 6-4, 225, Pleasant Grove HS, Texarkana, Texas. Committed June 22. Lists himself as a DE. Gives WKU a second 6-4 edge rusher alongside Wiggins.

Michael Stringer — WR, 6-0, 180, American Heritage HS, Plantation, Fla. Committed June 17. Held 11 offers. American Heritage is another South Florida powerhouse pipeline.

Dallas Covington — QB, 6-3, 180, East Nashville Magnet HS, Nashville, Tenn. Committed June 15. Completed 76.1 percent of his passes (121-of-159) with 22 touchdowns in 12 games as a junior. Held 21 offers including Memphis, Liberty and Middle Tennessee. Prep Redzone flagged him as a prospect who “could creep into Power Four status” and noted he “brings the arm talent and size to the field that translates well to the big stage of college football.”

Isiah Osby — CB, 5-11, 170, Lovejoy HS, Hampton, Ga. Committed June 18. Held 15 offers.

Elijah Foreman — IOL, 6-3, 280, Woodlawn HS, Birmingham, Ala. Committed June 19. Held 15 offers. Second Birmingham-area commit alongside Lewis.

Micah Newsome — LB, 6-2, 220, Christian Academy, Ky. Committed June 21. In-state Kentucky prospect.

Justice Pittman — DL, 6-4, 290, Battle Ground Academy, Franklin, Tenn. Committed June 19. The biggest recruiting win in the class. Held offers from Kentucky and Louisville — both Power 4, both in-state — and chose WKU. Recorded 46 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and a fumble return touchdown as a junior. BGA won the DII-AA state championship in 2025 — the school’s first title in 22 years. Pittman was a centerpiece of that defense.

Langston Abernathy — WR, 6-0, 180, Peachtree Ridge HS, Suwanee, Ga. Committed June 16.

Tavarco Jackson — ATH, 6-2, 200, Melrose HS, Memphis, Tenn. Committed June 21. Lists himself as ATH/DB. Profile classifies as skill linebacker. 3.6 GPA.

Carmello Peoples — OT, 6-6, 295, Tyner Academy, Tenn. Committed June 16. Biggest frame among the offensive line commits at 6-6.

Braylen Johnson — IOL, 6-1, 275, Seguin HS, Arlington, Texas. Committed June 17.

Kevin Gilyard Jr. — OT, 6-5, 325, Cardinal Ritter HS, Mo. Committed June 8. Heaviest commit in the class at 325 pounds.

Ayden Gonzalez — WR, 5-10, 160, Bishop Verot HS, Fort Myers, Fla. Committed June 18.

Jack Stivers — TE, 6-5, 240, Trinity HS, Ky. Committed June 8. In-state Kentucky prospect. One of the earliest commits alongside Gilyard.

Twenty-one commits, No. 1 in Conference USA, three with Power 4 offers who chose Bowling Green over bigger brands. Helton built the class in a three-week June blitz and loaded the trenches on both sides. Bowe gives the secondary a headliner from a national powerhouse program. Pittman gives the defensive front a proven producer who said no to Kentucky and Louisville. Covington gives the offense a quarterback with the arm talent and completion rate to grow into the system. This is what a G6 program looks like when it recruits with purpose.
